A group of South Marches Scouts and leaders travelled to an International Jamboree in Haarlem. The scouts raised money for the trip with a series of fund raising events including a marathon cycle ride and a truck pull. The following is a description by one of the leaders who was there. “On arrival at the camp site the rain was torrential but once this cleared it was an excellent visit. The activities offered and excursions arranged were excellent, and the organisation was superb. The Haarlem staff were all very helpful. Well done to Katie, Luke, Tom and Harry who were invested while on camp. Lucy celebrated her birthday at camp with over 3,900 people”.
One of the participants, Christian Dillow, said “The Haarlem Jamboree is a great experience for any scout and explorer. Whilst at the Jamboree this year I went swimming, hiking, blacksmiths, art and craft, tour around Amsterdam, mountain biking and much more. I met people from other countries and had the opportunity to taste their food. It is a great way to socialise and have lots of fun at the parties. The fireworks at the closing ceremony were amazing.” Another leader was quoted as saying “It is a great experience, mixing ages and abilities and multi-nationalities with the same idea of scouting ethos”.
