For those of you feeling a bit sad after having watched the new Christmas advert with the lonely man on the moon here’s a heartwarmer……A few weeks ago at 1st Fownhope the Beavers decorated invites, The Cubs wrote the invites and the Scouts (wearing hi vis jackets) delivered them one dark cold Monday evening to the sheltered accommodation in the village inviting our Senior Friends and neighbours to a free Victory Tea party tomorrow at the hall. The invites had a mixed assortment of pictures and handwriting bearing in mind the very young age of our Beavers. One invite had red white and blue flags…. another had Godzilla eating cake….

This is a new venture and we were not sure how the invites would be received and we don’t know how many will come tomorrow. (I’ll let you know how it goes!) But here’s the melt your heart moment, this morning at the Church remembrance service an elderly and quite frail lady wearing a medal and a poppy came up to me with a younger woman supporting her and shook my hand. She thanked me with tears in her eyes for her beautiful invitation and was very much looking forward to coming for a cup of tea. She said she was thrilled to have received such a lovely surprise and that she didn’t get many invites these days. When she left after the service she was so happy and said “see you tomorrow!”
